Change Pace Suddenly to Disrupt Net Rhythm
The Situation
You have been playing slow defensive balls and opponents are very settled at the net.
What To Do
After three or four slow balls, suddenly drive a fast low ball at pace. The change in rhythm is more disruptive than the pace itself.
Why It Works
Net players calibrate their reactions to the pace of the rally. A sudden tempo change catches them mid-anticipation. The principle of variation is used consistently at professional level โ playing the same pace makes you predictable and easy to read.
Court Positioning
Pattern: slow lob โ slow lob โ slow lob โ FAST low drive. Net players reset reaction timing after slow balls โ fast ball arrives before recalibration โ error or weak reply.
Court View
Bird's-eye view โ attacking net position
