Fake the Volley Direction to Wrong-Foot Opponents

volleydeceptionadvanced

The Situation

Opponents have started reading your volley direction accurately and are retrieving balls you expect to win.

What To Do

Shape your racket as if going cross-court then redirect down the line at the last moment. The deception works best on mid-height balls where you have time to disguise.

Why It Works

At advanced level opponents read your shoulder and racket face to anticipate volley direction. A convincing fake causes them to commit their weight in the wrong direction โ€” even a half-step the wrong way makes a well-placed volley unretrievable. Use it sparingly: two or three times per match for maximum surprise value.
