Think Two Volleys Ahead โ Not One
The Situation
You are at the net looking to finish the point from a strong position.
What To Do
Use your first volley to create difficulty โ low at feet or to a wide angle. Plan to finish on the second volley when the opponent is forced to lift.
Why It Works
Players who attempt to finish on the first volley take on unnecessary risk and often frame or net the ball. Structured two-volley thinking is how professionals consistently win net rallies. The first ball earns the second ball โ the second ball wins the point.
Court Positioning
Volley 1 โ low at opponent's feet (they must lift). Volley 2 โ taken at chest height, angled away into gap. Net pair holds compact position throughout.

Skill Level
Volley Down at Feet โ Not at the Body
You are at the net and receive a medium-height ball you can control.
Stand 1 Metre from the Net โ Not 2
You are at the net but keep backing up when opponents wind up for a shot.
Mirror Your Partner's Lateral Movement
You and your partner are both at the net and a ball goes to your partner's side.
