Stay Compact โ Cover the Middle Together
The Situation
You and your partner are both at the net and opponents are looking for gaps.
What To Do
Keep the distance between you and your partner tight โ no more than 2 meters apart. Both players slightly favor the middle over the lines.
Why It Works
Most amateur pairs leave a wide middle gap because both players hug their respective lines. Opponents drive the ball through the center repeatedly. Staying compact forces opponents wide, where their options are more limited and your volleys have better angles.
Court Positioning
Two players at net shown compact and centered. Middle is covered. Side lines are manageable from center position.

Skill Level
Never Both Players on the Same Side of the Court
During a rally you realize you and your partner are both on the same side of the court.
Never Stop in the Transition Zone
You are moving forward after a return and feel comfortable stopping between the service line and the net.
Split Step Before Every Opponent Shot
You are at the net or moving around the court and find yourself late to react to balls.
