Split Step Before Every Opponent Shot
The Situation
You are at the net or moving around the court and find yourself late to react to balls.
What To Do
Just before your opponent makes contact with the ball, do a small hop โ both feet leaving the ground simultaneously. Land as they hit. This is the split step.
Why It Works
The split step loads both legs equally so you can explode in any direction instantly. According to Legend Padel coaching, positioning is 70% anticipation and 30% movement โ the split step is the physical mechanism that makes anticipation actionable. Without it you are always one step late.
Court Positioning
Player at net position. Small hop timed to opponent contact point. Feet land shoulder-width apart, knees bent, weight forward.

Skill Level
Never Both Players on the Same Side of the Court
During a rally you realize you and your partner are both on the same side of the court.
Never Stop in the Transition Zone
You are moving forward after a return and feel comfortable stopping between the service line and the net.
Never Have One Player at Net and One at Baseline
After a shot one player is at the net and their partner is still at the baseline.
